Tannishtha Chatterjee directorial debut

'Parched' actress and National Award winner Tannishtha Chatterjee is set to make her directorial debut soon. The film will star Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the lead and production will start later this year. It will be jointly produced by Rising Star Entertainment, Eros International, Pankaj Razdaz, and Ravi Walia.

Taran Adarsh wrote on Twitter and broke the news, "Tannishtha Chatterjee turns director... Her directorial debut to star Nawazuddin Siddiqui... Produced by Eros International, Rising Star Entertainment, Ravi Walia and Pankaj Razdan... Film to go on floors this year."

Things to know about her

  • After completing her bachelors in Delhi University, Tannishtha went to the National School of Drama. She then worked in theatre in India as well as Europe.
  • In 2004, she worked in the German film, Shadows of Time, which earned her critical acclaim. It took her to international film festivals like Toronto and Berlin.
  • Her next big project took her to even greater heights. She worked in the British film Brick Lane (2007). It was a film adaptation of Monica Ali's best-selling novel of the same name. She was internationally acclaimed for her performance.
  •  In 2011, her film Dekh Indian Circus was released. Along with her, Nawazuddin Siddiqui starred in the film. She later won the National Film award for her incredible performance in the film. She is often referred by media as the 'Princess of Parallel Cinema'.

Her film Monsoon Shootout (2013) was officially selected at the 66th Cannes film festival. Another one of her films, Siddharth (2013) was in official selection at the 70th Venice Film Festival and the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. With this, she became the only Indian actress to have three films selected in three major international film festivals in the same year

  • She also starred in the highly acclaimed movie 'Parched' (2015) directed by Leena Yadav. She was also a part of the movie 'Angry Indian Goddesses'.
  • Now, the actress is all set to enter the directorial world with her upcoming project.
