"Committed To Providing Women Their Rights Based On Islam", Says Taliban Spokesperson

Taliban On Women's Rights: The spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, from the military organisation, Taliban, spoke about protecting the embassies of foreign countries in Afghanistan. He added that women can work in the sectors where they are needed.

After the Taliban took over the administration of the country of Afghanistan, there have been many protests for securing women and their rights. Recently, Afghan women from Kabul protested for their right to live in a safe society.

The Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid gave his statement addressing the media in the first-ever press conference. He assured the foreign countries that the military organisation would ensure the safety of their embassies in Kabul and said that they are of crucial importance to them. He also spoke about the aid agencies and international organisations in his statement.

He said in his statement reported by TOLOnews, "The security of embassies in Kabul is of crucial importance to us. We would like to assure all foreign countries that our forces are there to ensure the security of all embassies, missions, international organisations, and aid agencies."

On the issue of women's rights, he said, "Taliban are committed to providing women their rights based on Islam. Women can work in the health sector and other sectors where they are needed. There will be no discrimination against women. (sic)"

He said that women are important and they are giving them rights but within the sharia framework.

Recently, the Taliban's spokesperson had also said that they are soon going to establish an Islamic government in Afghanistan. He further added that "The Islamic emirate is pledging to all world countries that no threat will be posed to any country from Afghanistan."

After the US withdrew its troops after the two-decade-long war in Afghanistan, the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. They captured all the major cities within a matter of days, according to reports. Read more about them here.
