Sudha Murty's Term As Chairperson Infosys Foundation Extended Till December 2021

Murty said that she is "grateful" to have served as a chairperson of the foundation for 25 years, and have had the "opportunity to walk the path of philanthropy".

Sudha Murty, the chairperson of Infosys Foundation, will retire from the post on December 31, 2021, according to a statement by Infosys on Wednesday. She will complete 25 years of being the chairperson of the foundation at the end of the term.

Murty is one of India’s richest women with a reported net worth of over Rs 2,480 crore.

Murty became the chairperson of Infosys Foundation in 1996

Infosys Foundation is the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) arm of Infosys, the Indian multinational corporation giant. It was established in 1996  it works in areas as education, rural development, healthcare, arts and culture, and destitute care. Murty was elected as a chairperson on its inception in December 1996. She was re-elected for the position until October 10, 2020.

On Wednesday, Infosys released a regulatory filing, which confirmed the extension of her tenure. "On the request of the CSR Committee of Infosys Limited, the Trustees of the Infosys Foundation have unanimously elected Sudha Murty to continue as Chairperson till December 31, 2021," it said.

Furthermore, it was said that Murty has "graciously accepted this request". She will retire on the 25th anniversary of the Infosys Foundation, which will mark Murty's 25 years of service. It was further added that in the backdrop of the ravaging pandemic, the decision to extend Murty's term as a chairperson would allow the foundation "to seamlessly transition to new leadership."

Murty said that she is "grateful" to have served as a chairperson of the foundation for 25 years, and have had the "opportunity to walk the path of philanthropy". "The Foundation opened my eyes to the true state of my country and the needs of the common man," she added. She even said that when the foundation had started, she was a mother to it while it was her child. But as the 25 years of growth near, the role has reversed as the "Foundation has become a mother and I the child.”

Recently an image of her surfaced online, in which Murty was pictured smiling amidst mounds of vegetables with the claim that she spends a day every year selling vegetables to get rid of her “ego” .  ET NOW clarified, “She helps out in the Raghavendra Swamy temple Jayanagar kitchen at times as a form of service. Also not a recent picture.”
