Chennai Stalker Slashes Woman's Face With Beer Bottle After She Rejects Proposal

Cases of stalking have surged across the country for decades now, leading to horrific incidents. Recently, one such case surfaced in Chennai where a man was arrested for stalking a woman and then brutally attacking her. He is currently in judicial custody.

The 20-year-old woman's stalker harassed her constantly by proposing to her from time to time, and eventually slashed her face with a broken beer bottle when he couldn't handle rejection.

The Chennai police learned of the matter and immediately arrested the man after the woman complained about him, as per the latest reports.

According to the police, the 25-year-old man named Naveen Kumar is a resident of Chennai and he had first befriended the woman on Facebook. The woman hails from Kerala and resides in Chennai currently. She is an aspiring air hostess and had moved to town a few months back to work at the front desk of a local hotel in Kilpauk.

Kumar lied to her saying he was an officer in the Navy and would help her land a job in an airline using her contacts.

According to what was mentioned in the statement given by the woman to the police, Kumar had started harassing her early on by proposing to her time and again, which made her uncomfortable. He soon started stalking her after she began avoiding him.

On Tuesday, when she was returning to her hostel from work, Kumar confronted her and attacked her using a beer bottle. He used the broken beer bottle to slash her face in an attempt to take revenge on her. He fled from the spot soon after the attack.

The injured woman reached a nearby hospital with the help of some people who were witnesses to the incident. The woman underwent about 18 stitches on her face and ear. The officers shared that the man attacked her face on purpose to ruin her chance of being hired as an air hostess.

The police arrested him the next day and booked him under several sections, including an attempt to murder (section 307) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
