Sports Authority Approves PV Sindhu's Request To Have Physio and Trainer Accompany Her

The authority will fulfil an approx cost of Rs 8.25 lakh for the services of her physio and trainer for the three tournaments.

The Sports Authority of India (SAI) approved world champion PV Sindhu request to allow her physio and fitness trainer during the three tournaments in January 2021. The 26-year-old will become part of Target Olympic Podium Scheme core group and will return to competitions next after the COVID-19 induced break gets over.

"The government has sanctioned her request to have her physio and fitness trainer accompany her for these three tournaments i.e. Yonex Thailand Open ( 12-17 January), Toyota Thailand Open ( 19-24 January) and the World Tour Finals in Bangkok, subject to qualification (27-31 January)," the SAI released in a statement.

The authority will fulfil an approx cost of Rs 8.25 lakh for the services of her physio and trainer for the three tournaments.

Sindhu is currently in London working with sports nutritionist Rebecca Randell of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute and training with Badminton England's Toby Penty and Rajiv Ouseph at the National Training Centre.

Since the outbreak of the virus, all tournaments have either been cancelled or postponed. Sindhu had to pull of the  Denmark Open in October. It was the only event that took place amid the pandemic after All England Championship in March 2020.

Sindhu made her international badminton debut in 2009 at The Sub-Junior Asian Badminton Championships. IN 2016 she became the youngest and the first female to win a silver medal at Rio Olympics. She was also honoured with The Padma Shri Award, India's 4th highest civilian that year. Till date she one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic Medal.
