Sonia Gandhi, former Congress president, was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital with a viral respiratory infection. Hospital sources say she is stable and making a gradual recovery.
The 76-year-old Congress MP was admitted to Sir Gangaram Hospital in Delhi on Tuesday for treatment of a viral respiratory infection. Gandhi has been admitted to the department of chest medicine under the care of Sr. Arup Basu and his team.
Sonia Gandhi admitted to Hospital
Sonia Gandhi had been sick since Tuesday. Reportedly, she had difficulty breathing. Doctors diagnosed her with a respiratory infection following a routine check-up. She was accompanied to the hospital by her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
The news agency, Asian News International (ANI), reported a statement issued by Sir Gangaram Hospital. “Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson UPA, who is admitted at Sir Gangaram Hospital for a viral respiratory infection, is stable and is making a gradual recovery.”
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had returned to Delhi after walking seven kilometres in the Bharat Jado Yatra. The yatra resumed its journey on Wednesday after halting for the night at Mavikalan in Uttar Pradesh. Rahul Gandhi rejoined the yatra while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was accompanying her mother, Soniya Gandhi, at the hospital.
Sonia Gandhi had also joined the Bharat Jado yatra in Delhi, wearing a face mask. She walked a short distance with her son Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. This is the second time she has joined the yatra, which began in September last year from Kanyakumari. She had earlier taken part in the yatra in Karnataka in October.
On December 28, a video of Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi sharing a heartwarming moment did the rounds on the internet. They were seen sharing a laugh while interacting with senior Congress leader Ambika Soni. The duo were at the party’s 138th foundation day celebration in Delhi.
Sonia Gandhi and other leaders attended the customary meeting at Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla’s chamber at the end of the winter session. The winter session commenced on December 7 and ended on December 23.
