The federation in its statement claimed that the former coach has been paid his salary till August 7 2021 and only owes him an amount of USD 1800.

Here is what we know of Hockey India's allegations against Sjoerd Marijne:

  • The sports federation in its statement claimed that the coach is yet to return valuables such as a laptop which were given to while being appointed as the coach of the Indian team.
  • They added that the Sports Authority of India is well within rights to retain his remaining salary due to the nonreturn of the laptop. Marijne is also yet to file a report on the Olympics Games 2020, as per the official statement.
  • The said laptop reportedly has "invaluable data".
  • As the coach had asked for prize money or incentive for making the Indian women's team reach the fourth spot at the Olympics Games, Hockey India said that such demands are unprecedented. They said, "We would also like to point out that the fourth-place finish of the Indian women's team in the Olympic Games in Tokyo is due to the combined effort of a lot of people, not the least the athletes themselves, the coaching staff and the support staff who worked to raise the fitness levels of the players. Hence, his expectation of prize money or incentive is unprecedented."
  • The federation also asked for penal action against Marijne as his not returning the laptop amounts to data theft. The statement read, "We may point out that not returning the laptop issued to him amounts to data theft since it contains enormous amounts of critical data on the Indian players. We recommend to take necessary penal action against Marijne to facilitate the recovery of the laptop and the data it holds."
