Sister Lucy Who Protested Against Rape-Accused Bishop, Ordered to Vacate Her Hostel

Sister Lucy who believes that the disciplinary action against her was launched only because she participated in the said protest previously said to an Indian news agency, "I'm very afraid... they are killing me little by little, trying to take away all my happiness."

Sister Lucy dismissed: The Kerala nun who was dismissed on "disciplinary grounds" was asked to vacate her residential hostel amidst a nationwide crisis period due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She claimed that the actions taken against her are the result of her protest against rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal.

According to a letter by the Mother Superior of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation in Kerala, which is part of the Catholic Church Lucy Kalappurakkal was associated with, she needs to evict her hostel, which after her petition against her dismissal by the church legal forums.

"There is no further legal remedy available to you (Kalappurakkal) to within the Catholic legal system to challenge your dismissal", the letter read, "your right to continue as a member of the FCC is now definitively and irrevocably extinguished."

The letter further stated her stay at any of the Franciscan Clarist Convents as "unlawful", asking her to evict her hostel.

Sister Lucy who claimed several times that "justice is being denied because she spoke the truth", believes that people are with her amidst all of the controversies alleging her to have violated FCC laws and not providing a satisfactory explanation of her lifestyle which included participating in the protest against Mulakkal who was accused of rape, publishing a book, buying and driving a car, and earning a commission.

However, refuting her allegations, the FCC said, according to a leading daily, she had been issued "canonical warnings" but failed to show remorse.

Sister Lucy who believes that the disciplinary action against her was issued only because she participated in the said protest previously  told to the news agency, "I'm very afraid... they are killing me little by little, trying to take away all my happiness."

Last year, the Vatican rejected her appeal for the consecutive second time in less than five months.

Bishop Mulakkal Rape Case

The accused bishop has throughout denied all the allegations and is currently out on bail. He is being tried by a Kottayam court, charged with the rape of a nun, wrongful confinement, unnatural offence and criminal intimidation.
