Shamsiya told The New Indian Express that she used to be in and out of hospitals for few years. During that difficult phase of her life, she was helped by a number of people whom she didn't even know. That's when she decided to become a doctor and help others and give back to the society. "I worked towards that goal every single day of my life. My happiness knows no bounds today."

She is a student at Merpanaikkadu Government Higher Secondary School in Tamil medium and credits her teachers who helped and motivated her. She enrolled herself in Thisaigal centre for NEET coaching as it provides coaching for free to government school students.

One of her teachers also said that she has always been very bright and worked very hard.

Her father, who cannot walk due to a polio attack he suffered at a young age, is elated by this achievement of his daughter. He said that all those people who used to scorn them are now congratulating them as his daughter has proved that one can achieve anything with a good education. "I hope that she is an inspiration for other physically challenged children. You can do anything once you put your mind," he adds as per the report.

It is heartening to see young girls making their communities proud by working hard and achieving what they want to. For instance, Hmangaihzuali, a Mizoram farmer's daughter, won a scholarship worth 2.8 crore rupees for getting admission into Asian University for Women in Bangladesh. The recipient will be pursuing her studies in the undergraduate program in subjects of politics, public health, philosophy, and economics. Read more about her here.
