Congress UP manifesto for women: Priyanka Gandhi on Monday announced a separate manifesto by the Indian National Congress (INC) for the women of Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2022 assembly polls. Gandhi is the general secretary of the Congress committee in charge of UP has spotlighted focus on women's issues this season in India's most populous state that will witness a tussle for power against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The manifesto highlighted Gandhi's promise from last month of reserving 40 percent tickets for women in her party for the UP polls, making her first pledge for the state election. The 49-year-old impressed on the change women could bring and that her decision for reservation was for the girls of the state, including those who were raped in Unnao and Hathras.
Benefits offered to the women of UP in Congress' manifesto are listed as follows:
40 percent poll tickets to women
Two-wheelers and smartphones to female students
Annually, three free gas cylinders
Free bus travel for women
40 percent reservation for women in government posts
Rs 1000 per month widow pensions
Rs 10,000 per month honorarium for ASHA and Anganwadi workers
75 skill schools to be opened for the "heroines" of UP
As per election data, women make up for approximately 46 percent of the electorate in UP.
The UP polls are gearing up to be a high-stakes competition with the Congress' opposition parties being Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party (SP). On Monday, Yadav announced that he will not contest the state elections next year and that SP has formed an alliance with Jayant Chaudhary-led Rashtriya Lok Dal.
