Historically, Jamna wasn’t done when a girl child was born. But now the village governing body have decided that Jamna will be done irrespective of the gender of the child. This step has been taken to save the girl child and celebrate their births and discourage any beliefs otherwise.

The Sub Division Magistrate, Integrated Child Development Scheme officials and health officials get together and walk to the house where a girl child has been born. They carry gifts and shagun that they give to the family of the girl child to honour the birth of a girl. This mark of respect from the administration has been appreciated by one and all in the village and makes the parents of the girl child feel proud of her.

This isn’t the first village to adopt this scheme as Bundi district became the first ever village to start Jamna for the new-born girls as well two years back. It has been seen that after this ritual began for all the children, the child sex ration has really gone up in Bundi. The difference between the number male and female children has really gone down.
