Sanju Devi Wins Silver for India: At the Wrestling Junior World Championship, Bhateri and Sanju Devi won silver medals along with bronze medals won by others.
Bhateri plays in the 65 kg category while Sanju Devi participated in the 62 kg category in the Junior World Championship in Wrestling. The championship was held in Ufa, Russia. On Thursday, Saneh who plays in the 72 kg category suffered a injury on the knee during a match for the Bronze medal.
Bipasha also had a podium finish as she won a Silver medal for the country apart from Sanju Devi and Bhateri. Simran and Sito won the Bronze medals in a lower weight category. Simran participated in the 50 kg category while Sito played in the 55 kg category. In total, India won three Silver and two Bronze medals.
Sanju Devi had issues on the mat against the home wrestler Alina Kasabieva who is also the junior European Champion. Devi had started with good defence against the Russian early on in the match. But going forward, Kasabieva caught hold of Sanju's ankles and the match went downhill for India after that.
On the other hand, Bhateri fought a match against Irina Ringaci from Moldova. Irina Ringaci is already a senior European champion. Bhateri in the first round had a clean defeat with 0-4 on the scoreboard but she recovered well in the second match and got defeated by a smaller margin with a score of 2-4. With the loss of two rounds, she also lost the match to Irina.
Saneh went against Russian opponent Mariam Guseinova and was playing great as she kept the scores very close until she sustained the injury. The Russian wrestler caught Saneh's leg which was under pressure and went for a leg attack which resulted in the injury. Unfortunately, Saneh had to be stretchered off as she left the mat in tears.
