THE SANTINA SPLIT

This Indian and Swiss pair started last year in the month of March and since then they have been unbeatable. In fact they kick started the year by winning three titles on the trot --at Indian Wells, Miami and Charleston.

It has been a year of glory Sania who enjoyed her first-ever women's doubles Grand Slam title by winning the Wimbledon in company of Martina. Sania was declared the world number one in partnership with Martina after they won the Charleston event.

A source close to Sania told PTI,” "Yes, the partnership is over. They have not got the desired results in last five months. You see, they have lost to players outside top-100 and it reflects that something is wrong. But is a regular phenomena, you can change partner if results are not coming,"

In confirmed news Sania will now pair with the world number 21 Barbora Strycova from the Czech Republic while Martina has decided to team up with Coco Vandeweghe of the United States of America.

When questioned about the new changed choice the source was quoted by PTI stating "It was question of availability and also Barbora Strycova has a good backhand, so they also compliment game wise."

After winning four titles at the start of the season, they have managed to win only one title (Rome) after that in three finals which might be the reason that they decided to end the pair and search for alternatives? Who knows. Speculation is rife with all kinds of reasoning.

Twitter's sport followers for one has taken to this news with a sense of shock.

Both Sania and Martina can be seen playing in the Rio Olympics 2016. We will be waiting to see the magic of the new pairing soon in the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati which will begin on 15 August.
