Ace Indian badminton player Saina Nehwal, who became the first Indian to win a medal in Badminton at the Olympics, has made her country proud again. After beating the 17 year old Akane Yamaguchi of Japan in the summit clash yesterday, she clinched the $ 700,000 China Open Super Series Premier tournament.

After the Australian Super Series in June, and the Syed Modi International Grand Prix Gold early in the year, this became the third title to be won by Nehwal this year. At the badminton player’s sixth appearance in the tournament, she went into the interval with a four-point lead and finished with 21-12, 22-20 lead at the game, which lasted 42minutes.

Previously, Nehwal defeated World No. 17 Liu Xin of China 21-17 21-17 in the women's singles semifinals that lasted 47 minutes at the Haixia Olympic Sport Center. The World no. 5 Nehwal in an interview with NDTV Sports said, "I was surprised to see the scores by which Akane beat Sun Yu and Bae Yeon Jun. I was not expecting to beat three Chinese in a row. I will remember this title for the rest of my life.”

She added, "Each year I used to wonder if I would ever win the China Open because it is such a difficult event. The crowd was lovely. It was a special feeling to see a full house crowd cheering for both of us."
