Ex-chairman of Tata Sons Cyrus Mistry died in a road accident on September 4 while travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. The vehicle Mistry was travelling in hit a divider and the businessman passed away at 54. Mistry is survived by his wife Rohiqa Chagla and their two children Firoz and Zahan Mistry.

The last rites of Mistry will be performed in Mumbai on Tuesday, 6 September his family said. His funeral will be held at the Worli crematorium at 11 am.

The late Cyrus Mistry and Rohiqa Chagla were married for 30 years until his sudden death. The wife of the former chairman has experience in the corporate world and has held the position of director in private and public limited companies.

Rohiqa Chagla got married to Cyrus Mistry in 1992 and the couple stayed together for 30 years until his demise on September 4, 2022. The couple has two sons together, Firoz Mistry and Zahan Mistry.

Chagla is the granddaughter of Mohammadali Carim Chagla, a jurist, diplomat, former Cabinet Minister and former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. Her father Iqbal Chagla is a veteran lawyer and her mother is Roshan Chagla. Chagla’s brother Riaz was also appointed as a judge of the Bombay High Court in 2017.

Rohiqa Chagla’s husband Mistry was the ex-chairman of Tata Sons and was appointed to the post in 2012. The Tata Sons Board voted to remove Mistry from the Chairmanship of Tata Sons in 2016 which sparked a controversial battle with the families.

Chagla’s father, the prominent lawyer Iqbal strategized the course of action Mistry took in the legal battle against the Tata family and his removal from the post.

The former Tata Sons Chairman Cyrus Mistry passed away on Sunday, September 4, when the vehicle he was travelling in crashed into a road divider in Palghar, Maharashtra on a bridge over the Surya River. Shrikant Shinde, a Maharashtra police official said Mistry was one of two people to die in the car accident. Two other people in the vehicle were injured and taken to the hospital. Earlier this year, Mistry’s father Pallonji Mistry passed away in June at 93.

The Indian-born Irish businessman Mistry was the sixth chairman of the Tata Sons and was the second chairman to be chairman and not bear the surname of Tata.
