Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna

India's hopes for a medal in the mixed doubles were shattered today as the pair of Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna lost their bronze play-off to Czech Republic's Lucie Hradecka and Radek Stepanek. 1-6, 5-7. The match which lasted barely an hour saw a rather tame performance by the Indians.. Mirza and Bopanna had earlier lost to the American pair of Venus Williams and Rajeev Ram in the semi-finals.

The Czech pair dominated the first set, holding their serve and broke Sania's serve. Stepanek was in great form, and it didn't take them long to wrap up the set 6-1. The second set was more keenly contested, with Sania coming up with some great forehands. When the Czechs finally served for the match at 6-5,  Indian duo managed to save two break points but was unable to save the third. Mirza dispatched a forehand into the net, which ended the match.
