As the Mumbai Police started its investigations into Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, actor Rhea Chakraborty was brought in for interrogation on June 18. She was there for almost nine hours. During the questioning the police found out that the couple had an alleged breakup. Sources revealed Rhea happened to be the last person he called before going to sleep every day, ET reported.
Police were unable to trace a suicide note in Sushant’s Bandra apartment. Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh said in a tweet that ‘While the post mortem report says actor @itsSSR committed suicide by hanging himself, there are media reports that he allegedly suffered from clinical depression because of professional rivalry.@MumbaiPolice will probe this angle too."
Who is Rhea Chakraborty?
The 28-year-old started her career as a video jockey before getting into Bollywood. Born in a Bengali family, Rhea has worked as a host in shows like Pepsi MTV Wassup, MTV Gone in 60 seconds and TicTac College Beat. Her notable films were Sonali Cable, Jalebi and Chehre. She also appeared in Ayushmann Khurrana's music video O Heeriye in 2013.
Rhea and Sushant reportedly started dating around May last year. They never came out openly about their relationship. However, they were constantly spotted together and shared holidays and trips, pictures of which also went viral on social media. They started calling each other with cute names on Instagram and were rumoured to be getting married by November this year.
Rhea grabbed media attention when posted a picture with Mahesh Bhatt in 2018. She worked with the famous director for the film Jalebi. She was mercilessly trolled for the “inappropriate” closeness with the 70-year-old. To which Rhea said to Asianage, “I won’t lie, I was very upset. He is like a father to me, he is my mentor, and people just don’t get it. Mahesh Bhatt has been a great influence in many people’s lives. The vibe he brings onto the set is very positive. If at all you are wearing a mask, he asks you to remove it be yourself.”
When during an earlier interview to Man's World India Magazine, the deceased actor was asked about dating Rhea and he said, “I’m not allowed to say. It’s not that someone else is saying that I’m not allowed to say it. I cannot allow myself to say anything. Right now, it’s not right to say. People shouldn’t start talking about things in a nascent stage as if they are very sure of it.”

Why is Rhea's statement important in this case?
Amid the investigations, Suhrita Sengupta, an associate of Mahesh Bhatt has revealed to National Herald that Sushant allegedly started hearing voices which scared Rhea. She said, “Mahesh Bhatt had seen it in Parveen Babi and he knew there was nothing that would be done except medication. Rhea who stuck on in spite of Sushant’s rapid descent into depression tried her best to ensure that Sushant would take his medication. But he refused.”
Suhrita even stated, “During the last one year, he had cut himself completely from all outside contact. Rhea was with him until she could take it no longer."
The latest TOI report says that Rhea had been living in with Sushant and that they were planning on getting married in November. The actress revealed that she left the Carter Road penthouse after getting into a fight, where they were living in together during the lockdown. Sources also added that Rhea, however, called and texted him, kept checking up on him during this period.
