With this, a total of seven people have been arrested so far and an investigation underway to track down others involved in the murder of the former BJP corporator.

Mala and her son Arun were interrogated by the police on Sunday, The News Minute reported. The other five arrested in the case are Peter, Surya, Stephen Jaipal, Ajai Kumar and Purushottam. According to a report by The New Indian Express, a senior police officer revealed that Mala, the elder sister of Kadiresh’s husband Kadiresh, and her son, were in touch with the alleged killers and thus were brought in for questioning. The official said that they were interrogated after an accused informed the police about their alleged involvement. Now, the police suspect that Mala and Arul are the prime accused in the case.

Rekha Kadiresh murder case: Stephen, Ajay and Purushottam, according to the cops, provided support to the two others accused of stabbing Kadiresh to death in front of her house in Cottonpet on Thursday.

Kadiresh, a two-time BJP corporator and resident of the Chalavadipalya ward in the city, was the second wife of S Kadiresh, who was killed in February 2018. S Kadiresh had a history of being involved in criminal activity. She was hacked to death by armed men outside her office near the flower garden on June 24 around 10.30 in the morning. The two-time BJP councillor from Chalavadipalya was supervising the distribution of relief material and breakfast when the assailants attacked her. According to reports, police suspect that personal rivalry could have been the motive for the murder. Read more on the murder case here.

The Hindu reported that Mala was planning to back her daughter-in-law in the next polls for the councillor’s seat from the area.
