Reality TV Anchor's Racist Monologue To Introduce Female Contestant From Assam Draws Assam CM's Ire

The clip that went viral showed Mr Raghav Juyal introducing a young contestant by speaking Gibberish chinese. The clip has drawn the attention of hundreds of netizens on Twitter including Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Host Raghav Juyal is under fire for introducing a contestant from Assam on a dance show on TV with the words "momo", "chowmein" and "gibberish Chinese". His racist and cringe-worthy comments have been criticised by Assam's Chief Minister also.

It all started when an undated clip from the reality show Dance Deeewane Season 3 went viral on social media. The clip showed Mr Juyal introducing a young contestant with these objectionable words. The clip has drawn the attention of hundreds of netizens on Twitter including Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

It has come to my notice that a popular reality show host has used racist rhetoric against a young participant from Guwahati. This is shameful and totally unacceptable. Racism has no place in our country and we should all condem it unequivocally.

The host took to Instagram and tried to issue a clarification. He said that he made those remarks with reference to the contestant's self-professed talent of conversing in Chinese.

"It's unfair and not good for my mental health to see this short clip without the right context. When this contestant came to the show, she announced that she had a talent of speaking Chinese. My performance was based on that," Raghav Juyal said.

He added that calling him a racist would be unfair as he strongly opposes racism. He also said that he has family connections in North-Eastern cities and he would never behave or take any action to mock at them explaining that whatever happened was not intended.

In May this year, 37-year-old Yuvika Chaudhary was in the spotlight after a clip of her using a casteist slur surfaced on Twitter. The hashtag #ArrestYuvikaChaudhary became a trending topic on Twitter with a strong demand of action with the arrest of the actor. She was arrested later. Read more about the case here.
