Rapper Raja Kumari, First Indian-Orgin Host Of American Music Awards

Indian-American rapper, song-writer and philanthropist, Raja Kumari will be hosting the upcoming American Music Awards 2019. She will be the first-ever Indian-origin host of the big event. The red carpet event is being produced by Dick Clark Productions and will be held at Microsoft Theatre, Los Angeles on November 24.

Apart from Raja Kumari, AMA will be hosted by Sofia Carson, AJ Gibson, Jaymes Vaughan, Lauren Jauregui, and Nick Viall. According to Hindustan Times, Raja Kumaris said:

“Today, I’m the first Indian American to host the pre-show and I couldn’t be prouder. Representing my community while being a part of such an incredible night is an honour.”

This year, the centre stage will be resonating with the performances of Christina Aguilera and A Great Big World, Post Malone featuring Ozzy Osbourne, Travis Scott and Watt and Green Day.

Expressing her delight and excitement of hosting AMA, Raja Kumari said HT, “Growing up in America, the AMAs were always an exciting night in the house. I would wait all year to see the artists in their beautiful dresses and their incredible performances. It always inspired me to reach for my dreams,”

Raja Kumari or Svetha Yellapragada Rao was born in Claremont California, on January 11, 1986. She pursued her graduation in Religious Studies with a specification of South Asian Religion. As a rapper and song-writer, she is best known for her collaboration with Gwen Stefani, Iggy Azalea, Fifth Harmony, <3> Knife Party and Fall Out Boy. Apart from Hollywood, she has also written the lyrics of many hit rap songs of Bollywood. No doubt, the Indian Princess calls her music as “BollyHood.” She has also been conferred with the BMI Pop Awards in 2016 as a songwriter and has been nominated to Grammy Awards in 2015 for her album “The New Classic.”

Besides her career in Pop music, she is also an Indian Classical dancer since the age of seven. She has been honoured with the Kohinoor Award for her excellence in Classical Art by Tamil Nadu Governor.

Raja Kumari is recognised also for her philanthropist activities. Her performances as an artist has contributed to many philanthropic causes like building a hospital in Bangalore, meditation hall in South India for Vesgena Foundation, a school for children with disabilities. She has been labelled as the benefactor by the Foundation Indic Philosophy and Culture.
