On Thursday, The National Electoral Institute said that governorship candidate, Felix Salgado had failed to report an account of the money he spent during the primary process and his candidacy will be officially unrecognised henceforth.

The state and the federal mid-term election will be held on June 6.

Salgado's nomination for the governorship was protested by women's rights activists and despite the protests, Salgado was awarded a nomination for the governorship of the southern state of Guerrero this month.

Salgado's lawyer has denied the accusations, although Salgado did not personally deny them.

Salgado called the decision of the court "rude and arbitrary" and vowed to fight against the decision. However, he did not mention if he had reported the spending of money as required by Mexico's election laws.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s Morena party said that Salgado was elected as candidate by party members through polls, despite the accusations of rape against him and nationwide protests.

Lopez Obrador's decision of not breaking with Salgado was contemplated and protested against by the country. However, the President said that the voters in Guerrero will decide regarding the case. He also claims that the accusations are being bought up by his foes, that is, the conservatives.

Salgado, who goes by the nickname Toro, or “Bull,” has not been charged and the statute of limitations ran out one case. The other case is still being investigated.

Salgado is a former federal legislator and mayor of Acapulco. His past has recorded some unethical activities and is known for his questionable character. He was caught scuffling with police in the year 2000, in a video.
