Rajasthan: Congress MLA Booked For Assaulting A 52-Year-Old

Zahida Khan has denied the allegations and termed them as "baseless and politically motivated."

Rajasthan Congress Zahida Khan booked for assault: A complaint has been registered against Rajasthan Congress Zahida Khan, country's first woman MLA from the Meo community. The Bharatpur police in Rajasthan have booked Khan and three others for allegedly assaulting 52-year-old Akbar from village Jodhpur under Pahari police station.

The complainant alleged that on January 31 morning he was on the way to join the farmers’ agitation near Haryana border when the Kaman MLA's hired goons started beating him up. He claimed that he was assaulted and then eventually rescued by the locals and passersby.

Police said that, in the complaint, Akbar has claimed his life and that of his family members are at risk. He added that 5,000 was looted from him, reports Hindustan Times.

Khan has denied the allegations and termed them as "baseless and politically motivated."

After the FIR was lodged, the station house officer of Pahari police, Rajendra Sharma, was transferred.

Who is Zahida Khan?

Khan, who comes from Mewat (Haryana), had created history by becoming the first woman MLA from the Meo community in the country, in the year 2008. She contested, for the first time, in assembly polls from the Kaman constituency of Rajasthan on a Congress party ticket.

She was elevated to the position of Chief Parliament Secretary in 2008 and occupied the post till 2013. She also happens to be the first woman from the community, to be appointed as the General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress.

Khan is a law graduate from Delhi University and is married to an engineering graduate, Jalish Khan.
