Investment in a girl’s education can turn not only her life around but also the lives of her family members, community and the nation on whole. Understanding the dire need to promote girls’ education, a Rajasthan bride requests father before the wedding to use the money kept for her dowry in the noble cause of constructing a girls’ hostel.
Anjali Kanwar got hitched to Praveen Singh on November 21. She is the daughter of Kishore Singh Kanod in Barmer city. The father agreed and donated ₹ 75 lakh for the construction of the girls’ hostel.
As per a report, Anjali waited for the wedding rituals to get over before expressing her desire in a letter. She read it out in front of everyone who was a part of the gathering. There was a loud applause after this. The guests praised the girl for her evolved mindset and contributing towards solving one of the most pressing challenges of our times. Her father gave Anjali a blank cheque and asked her to fill whatever amount she liked.
Another such inspiring woman who spurred change in her village is Bindu RD. She is a 26-year-old woman living in Davanagere district of Karnataka who has sent an email to the Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on September 9 telling him that she won’t get married until roads are built in her village. Her mail prompted the Administrative officials of the district to visit her place who had assured her that construction work would start soon.
According to her, if she gets married and leaves her district, there will be no one to fight for the rights of the people living there. She had to walk 14-km to reach the nearest school in absence of a proper road. She said many women from the village had to drop out of school early because of this reason. Read more about her here.
