Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi's Wife, Son And Daughter-In-Law Test COVID Positive

Charanjit Singh Channi family infected with COVID: The Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi's wife, son and daughter-in-law have tested positive for COVID-19. The family is currently in home isolation in Kharar, a town in Punjab.

While the CM himself has tested negative for the virus, the samples of his wife Dr Kamajit Kaur, son Navjit Singh and daughter-in-law Simrandheer Kaur were positive. The confirmation  Mohali civil surgeon Adarhpal Kaur.

Adding that the CM's samples were tested negative, Kaur said, "They have been infected with coronavirus infection and are now in home isolation in Kharar." In a press conference on Wednesday, CM Channi had revealed that he had not attended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Ferozepur as his principal secretary Hussan Lal and one of the personal assistants had tested positive for coronavirus a few days ago.

On January 7, the active caseload of coronavirus in the state stood at 9,425. Out of the total number, 2,901 was reported on January 7. In Punjab, Patiala alone saw a surge in cases up to 831. After that was Ludhiana with 324 in total. One death was reported from Hoshiarpur. In Patiala, the positivity rate has jumped to 33.05 percent.

Recently, a lot of politicians and people in power positions have been testing positive for COVID-19. Today, the Chief of Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal tested positive for coronavirus. She informed everyone of her health status via tweet and said that she has a fever and is unwell.

In recent weeks, politicians like Bharati Pravin Pawar, Mahendra Nath Pandey, Arvind Kejriwal, Renu Devi and Tar Kishore Prasad, amongst others have tested positive for COVID-19. As elections approach in five states, rallies have become bigger and the number of campaign speeches increased over the past few months. But as COVID-19 hits hard and many politicians test positive, parties have cancelled few rallies or like Congress chose to go for virtual campaigns.

Lately, Punjab has been in the news of the security breach that took place when PM Narendra Modi tried visiting Ferozepur but due to being stuck on a flyover in Punjab for nearly 20 minutes because of a protest by the farmers, PM had to return to the airport in Bathinda.

The Punjab government has submitted a report to the Ministry of Home Affairs on the incident and in the report, the Bathinda senior superintendent of police has blamed his counterpart for the lapse.
