Pune Cop Shoots Wife And Nephew Before Taking His Own Life

A 57-year-old Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Pune, Maharashtra, allegedly shot and killed his wife and nephew with a gun before taking his own life at his residence on Monday. The incident is currently under investigation by the authorities.

Gaikwad, who was serving as an ACP in Amaravati, had returned home before the incident took place, according to the police. The incident occurred around 3.30 am. at ACP Bharat Gaikwad's residence in the Baner area of Pune.

The ACP reportedly shot his wife in the head. Upon hearing the gunshot, his son and nephew rushed to the scene and opened the door. As they opened the door, he allegedly fired at his nephew, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, according to an official statement. Subsequently, Gaikwad turned the gun on himself, suffering a fatal headshot wound. The official confirmed that all three individuals succumbed to their injuries at the scene.

The cause of the tragedy is still unknown, as per the statement provided by the official from Chaturshringi police station. Further investigations are underway to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The two other deceased individuals have been identified as Moni Gaikwad (44), the police officer's wife, and Deepak (35), his nephew. The police investigated the incident to uncover more details and understand what led to this tragic event.

In a similar incident in July 2023, a constable stationed in Udaipur attempted to shoot his wife with his service revolver at her parental home in Naya village under the Pahada police station. The constable, identified as Mukesh Salvi from Tidi police station in Udaipur, has been married to Khusbu for the past 10 years. The motive behind the shooting was his suspicion that his wife was involved in an illicit affair with a man living in the neighbourhood. However, after the gunshot wounded his wife on the shoulder, the constable fled the scene.
