Priyanka Gandhi Addresses Farmers' Rally In Muzzaffarnagar

Priyanka Gandhi: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the farmers mega meet in Uttar Pradesh's Muzzaffarnagar and extended her support to the protesting farmers.

Gandhi in her speech urged the farmers to stay strong and said,  "this government is weak... this government will have to back down." She further accused the Modi government of disrespecting the farmers and not paying 15,000 crore unpaid dues to sugarcane farmers of UP. She also touched upon the rising price of petrol and diesel in the country.

Congress leader said, "The Prime Minister promised that sugarcane dues will be paid... that your income will double. Sugarcane payment is ₹ 15,000 crore. Prime Minister bought two airplanes which is ₹ 16,000 crore... ₹ 20,000 crores for new parliament... but sugarcane dues were not paid."

"Gas prices are increasing also... diesel was ₹ 60 in 2018, now it is somewhere near ₹ 90. The BJP government earned ₹ 3.5 crores by taxing diesel last year. Where is that money? Why did the people who irrigate the country with sweat not get money," she added.

Priyanka Gandhi further questioned the central government's approach to curb the protests with police using tear gas and lathi charge.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi can go to China... can go to America but cannot go to the farmers. The Delhi border is five-six kilometres from the Prime Minister's house," she added that the border of the national capital has been made like the border of the country.

She attacked Narendra Modi's statement in Parliament when he called farmers his "family" and pointed out 215 deaths so far and claimed that farmers are being tortured and abused. "He is making fun of farmers," she added. She told the farmers that she will keep visiting them and that she is not showing her face for politics.

She ended her speech by saying," Do not back down, this government is weak. This government will have to back down."
