Priyanka Gandhi Detained in Uttar Pradesh: Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi was detained in Uttar Pradesh as she was headed to meet the families of four  dead farmers who died in the violence the erupted on Sunday over the visit by two ministers.

A total of eight people including four farmers have been killed when a convoy of three SUVs, including one reportedly owned by Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra, hit the people protesting. Here is what we know about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's detention:

  1. Priyanka Gandhi was detained early in the morning, on her way to Lakhimpur Kheri.
  2. Congress on Twitter said Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was being taken to Sitapur Police line.
  3. She also had Congress leader Deepender Hooda with her.
  4. “Today’s incident shows that this government is using politics to mow down farmers. This is the farmers’ country, not BJP’s… I’m not committing any crime by deciding to meet the victims’ kin…Why are you stopping us? You should have a warrant,” Gandhi said.
  5. The farmers, had assembled to stop the visit of the Union Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya.
  6. It is alleged that violence in Lakhimpur Kheri district erupted after their car mowed down the protesters.
  7. "Priyanka, I know you won't back away - they are stunned by your courage. In this non-violent fight for justice, we will make the country's Annadata win," Rahul Gandhi has tweeted.
  8. "Warrant nikalo, order nikalonahi toh main yahan se nahi hil rahi hoon and if you will put me in that car I will charge you with kidnapping," Priyanka Gandhi is heard telling the cops.
  9. Uttar Pradesh Congress' Twitter handle in a tweet has alleged that Gandhi's clothes were pulled and her arm was twisted.
  10. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said, “I am not committing a crime by stepping out of the house. I just want to meet the affected families and share their grief,"  responding to her house arrest.
