After months of staying away from home, Priyanka Chopra recently landed in Mumbai. Soon after her return, Bollywood was abuzz with the news that the actress has bagged an unconventional film. She would be seen essaying the role of astronaut Kalpana Chawla in a biopic directed by newcomer, Priya Mishra.
If the reports are to true, PeeCee will soon be donning the astronaut’s hat and take over the outer space with her next film project.
“I have been working on it for the past seven years. A new production banner will back the project,” Priyanka Chopra was quoted by Mid-day.
“The film will be mounted on an international scale. A new production company, Getway, is likely to produce the biopic,” a source said.
The late Indian-American astronaut Kalpana Chawla’s story is truly inspirational. She was the first Indian woman and only the second Indian astronaut to have travelled in space. Earlier, Chopra has essayed the role of boxer Mary Kom.
PC has been discussing the plot with the filmmaker for quite some time now and if things go according to plans, this film will be her first Bollywood project after returning to India.
We lost astronaut Kalpana Chawla in 2003 in a tragic accident. The fierce lady would be remembered forever for her extraordinary achievements. She spent 31 days, 14 hours and 54 minutes in space, making India proud.
Though there have been rumours over the years of Chopra being offered Kalpana Chawla’s role, the actress has only recently confirmed the project. Chopra is also set to play Amrita Pritam in a Sahir Ludhianvi biopic.
Playing Kalpana Chawla will be yet another feather in the cap of this versatile actress.
So good luck Priyanka and may you keep rocking!
