Mother of Police Jawan Basil Toppo constructed a memorial for her son in the village of Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. Police Jawan Basil Toppo was reportedly killed in the Naxal attack of 2011 in Bastar. His mother got the memorial painted on Republic Day and his sisters reportedly tie Rakhi every year on Raksha Bandhan.

Mother of martyred Police Jawan Basil Toppo constructed a memorial as a tribute for her son’s bravery in Perva Aara village of Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh. She got the memorial painted on Republic Day 2022. Police Jawan Basil Toppo lost his life while fighting Naxalites in Bastar in 2011.

“I feel proud of him,” said Police Jawan Mother on his sacrifice of life for the nation’s security. Basil Toppo’s memorial is located at the school square of the village. The government had promised to build his memorial to honour his sacrifice. Reportedly, when there were no efforts from the government for two years, the family members resorted to build it on their own.

As per reports, the villagers also pay their respects to Basil Toppo during festivals. They light up diyas and candles around the memorial during Diwali every year and cut cake on Christmas as well. Reportedly, his sisters also tie rakhi on the wrist of the memorial every year on Raksha Bandhan. Martyr’s mother also cleans his memorial on every festival or special occasion herself.

A few years earlier, the village lacked even the basic facilities but after being discussed in the media, the administration made several facilities made available in the village, according to reports. The village is known as the ‘Village of the Martyr’ after the installation of the memorial. Perva Aara is inhabited by tribal communities of Jashpur, Chhattisgarh.
