Who is Lily Douglas: Teen dancing sensation Lily Douglas, whose battle with cancer inspired people worldwide passed away over the weekend, her mother announced. The Scottish influencer came into the spotlight in recent years owing to her fundraising efforts, following which she also forged relationships with prominent celebrities and made appearances in the media.

"My beautiful baby girl danced her way to heaven at 7.17 tonight her heart failed but she was on the sofa at home cuddled into me where she wanted to be," Douglas' mother Jane wrote in a heartbreaking Facebook post. "She is at peace and is finally in no more pain."

"Even with cancer lily lived her best life , and was loved by everyone i hope i made her proud," she added. The post contained multiple studio-shot pictures of the late teen.

Douglas, born in Perth, Scotland, was battling Ewing's sarcoma since she was nine years old. It is a type of bone cancer known for particularly affecting children and the youth. It is understood to be a very rare form of disease.

She came to the fore with efforts of fundraising towards her treatment and was a skilled ballet dancer. As per local media The CourierDouglas got a surprise once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of performing with the prestigious Scottish Ballet in 2019. Her story was then covered by BBC Scotland.

Douglas was also chosen that year to switch on the city's Christmas lights.

The teen star's media appearances brought her to the attention of many renowned artists, including singer Lewis Capaldi,  comedian David Walliams and choreographer Arlene Phillips, with all of them acknowledging her story's inspirational value.

Last year, Douglas was crowned the Teenager of Courage at the Pride of Scotland awards, which honour Scottish heroes. Talking about her battle with cancer, young Douglas was quoted saying, "At first, I felt very, not sad, but very confused as to why it had to happen to me... But you get through it… no matter what."

On Instagram, Douglas was nothing less than a celebrity herself. With over 100,000 followers, she had a verified account where she gave fans a glimpse into her world - outings, travels, time spent with family, makeup.
