Mohammad Haneef Atmar reportedly spoke with Shah Mahmood Qureshi, who is his Pakistani counterpart, "on the ongoing investigation into the abduction of the daughter of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Islamabad, expressing his deep concern over the remarks made by Pakistan’s interior minister."

Atmar further added that such "unprofessional remarks and premature judgments will severely damage bilateral relations and the credibility of ongoing investigation that has not yet been completed."

This came after Pakistan interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed claimed that the Indian spy agency is involved in the matter. He said, "We have presented the situation to the nation and we are being dishonoured before the world, on social media we are being given a bad name...This is all being done according to a plan. There is a conspiracy to slander Pakistan and RAW is involved." He also argued as to why did Silsila Alikhil travel to Rawalpindi and added that the Pakistani security agencies had CCTV footage of the envoy’s daughter travelling to Rawalpindi.

The first vice president of Afghanistan, Amrullah Saleh, expressed how the Silsila Alikhil abduction had "wounded the psyche of our nation."

A delegation from Afghanistan is going to visit Pakistan for furthering the steps of return of the Afghan diplomats and ambassador. The Afghanistan and Pakistan relations took a downturn when Afghan President Ashraf Ghani accused Pakistan of not taking action to prevent the "influx of over 10,000 jihadi fighters" in June.

Silsila Alikhil, daughter of the Afghan ambassador Najibullah Alikhil was abducted in Islamabad on Friday. She was brutally tortured according to reports and was held for almost five hours. She was later released and is now receiving medical attention.
