Nehwal defeated her Irish opponent Rachael Darragh 21-9, 21-5 in the women's singles match on Wednesday.

Victory at the Orleans Masters might help her gain some rank points

Nehwal's advancement into the second round of this tournament comes after her withdrawal from the All England Open tournament last week. It is said that she had suffered a thigh strain.

Her latest victory will now help her gain some ranking points before she faces the Tokyo Olympics which will be held between June-August this year.

In the first game of the Orleans Masters, Saina was able to score rapidly with her dipping forehands and cross-court shots. Darragh found it difficult to score.

In the second game, Saina Nehwal was able to counter Darragh's moves with her long serves, and shooting back returns just over the net. Finally, the game proved to be too much for Saina's Irish opponent who then went on to make many errors.

After this victory, Saina Nehwal will now have to play with winner between Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova and local player Marie Batomene in the women’s singles Round of 16.

Ira Sharma, Aakarshi Kashyap To Participate In The Tournament

Other than Saina, Ira Sharma and Aakarshi Kashyap will also be participating in the tournament. PV Sindhu had earlier confirmed that she won't be participating in the Orleans Masters.

As far as the men are concerned, Kidambi Srikanth will be facing Ajay Jayaram in his first match for the Orleans Masters.

Badminton player Parupalli Kashyap will also be battling against French player Toma Junior Popov. On the other hand, Parupalli Kashyap will be going head-to-head against Kiran George in the second round of the French tournament.

Nehwal bagged Bronze for the country in Olympic 2021 at London. It made her the first Indian woman to win an Olympics in badminton.
