Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated homes to women in Gujarat as a Raksha Bandhan gift. He said that the 1.15 lakh homes built in different places under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana were a Rakhi gift to the beneficiary women.
The PM made the comment while addressing a public rally in Valsad. He witnessed E-grahpravesh for 1,15,551 beneficiaries of the scheme. Modi also interacted with the women beneficiaries across 26 districts in Gujarat via video conference.
The PM said, "I got an opportunity to talk to women across the state today that got their homes under the PM Awas Yojana. It's a Raksha Bandhan gift to my sisters in Gujarat. When Raksha Bandhan is round the corner, an own home is like a Raksha Bandhan gift for the women in the families.”
He added, "It is my dream. It is our endeavour to ensure that every Indian has his own house by 2022. Till now, we only heard politicians getting their own homes. Now, we are hearing about the poor getting their own homes.”
Modi also said that the quality of the homes had many wonder if houses under a government scheme could be so good.
"The houses were "wonderful" because no middlemen were involved in their allotment. The Katki Company (middlemen) has been shut. If one rupee is disbursed from Delhi, we are ensuring every 100 paise is reaching the villages."
New Slogan Launch
PM Modi also took the opportunity of his public interaction to roll out a new election slogan ‘Saaf Niyat, Sahi Vikas’.
"Our government is marching ahead on the commitment of 'Saaf Niyat, Sahi Vikas'. This is why I can ask you all here in everyone's presence if anyone has cheated you," he said.
He also laid the foundation stone of Astol Group Water Supply Scheme. The Rs 586 crore project will benefit the tribal villages of Dharampur and Kaprada talukas in Valsad district.
