106-Year-Old Kuttiyamma To Take Her First Flight After Cracking Kerala's Literacy Mission

Kuttiyamma will be boarding a flight to New Delhi from Cochin International Airport on 11 March to attend a Women's Day meeting

First Flight At Age 106
Kuttiyamma Konthi will be taking her first flight at age 106. This old woman hails from Kottayam and will be flying to the New Delhi International Airport on Friday's afternoon flight to attend a meeting for Women's Day.

She will be catching the flight to Delhi from the Cochin International Airport on Friday afternoon. The Women's day meeting being attended by Konthi has been organised by Delhi Government's Delhi Commission for Women. 

Konthi comes from Thiruvanchoor in Kottayam. India's Habitat Center will be honouring Konthi this Saturday. She secured 89% marks in Kerala's Literacy Mission when she was aged 104. 

Konthi was married at 16 years of age. She has five children with her husband who passed away a little more than two decades back. Konthi is currently living with Gopalan, her eldest son. 

The event organisers from the Habitat Center initially connected with Konthi'a grandson Biju to enquire if she was fit to make the trip. After confirming Konthi's health they sent flight tickets for her along with tickets for Biju and Rajani, his wife.  

More Details On Konthi Who Takes Her First Flight At Age 106 

The celebrations for Women's Day to which Konthi was invited are taking place on 11th March, Saturday instead of 8th March, Wednesday because it was Holi on the 8th.

Konthi's grandson conveyed that she was thrilled to be travelling in a plane for the first time. She also visited a temple this Wednesday. 

The Kerela's Literacy Mission that Konthi appeared for is considered to be equivalent to primary education. The exam tests one's basic literacy skills like being able to write one's address, primary math skills, and knowledge of Malayalam alphabets. 

Konthi's tutor conveyed that Konthi was an eager learner and waited for her with her books ready to start learning every class. 

Rehna, Konthi's tutor added that after learning the language Konthi took to newspapers and has been checking business pages on the paper and prices of agricultural products.
