A mother's love is an unparalleled bond, as she can do anything for her child's sake. However, we have also seen mothers who have been terrible with their children and done spine-chilling things to them. A similar incident was reported from Mayurbhanj district in Odisha, where a woman sold her 8-month-old daughter for Rs. 800 just because she was not financially able to raise her.

Odisha Woman Sells Daughter

He was reportedly identifiedas Karami Murmu, who lived in Mahulia village, Khunta. Her husband, Mushu, works in Tamil Nadu and is often away from work. The couple had two daughters, one of which was just eight months old. When Mushu recently came back home from Tamil Nadu, he could not find his younger daughter. He was worried and filed a missing FIR at the nearest police station.

On investigating, the police found the girl living with a  woman named Phulamani Marandi. It was found out that Murmu sold her 8-month-old daughter to Marandi in exchange oforRs. 800. Marandi came to know about some source that Murmu was thinking of selling her child, and since she was looking for a baby, she contacted her.

On being asked why she did that to her daughter, Murmu said that she could not afford to raise her as she already had one daughter. The police have reportedly arrested two people in the case, including Marandi, who bought the child. It is saddening how people would go to any length to get rid of their girl child in today's world. With sons, people expect that they will be potential earners in future, but when a  girl is born, they think that they have to raise her just to pay the cost of marrying her off. Though poverty affects a person's decisions, that does not mean they can abandon their infant child for money.
