According to sources, Sitharaman's condition is stable and she is being given the best medical care. The doctors at AIIMS will release a statement on her health shortly.

The sources revealed that Sitharaman was admitted following chest congestion and dehydration.

Yesterday, Sitharaman paid floral tributes to the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary at 'Sadaiv Atal' in New Delhi.

Recently, the finance minister said that India is recognised as the pharmacy of the world as the nation produces global standard medicine at an affordable cost during a convocation ceremony at a Tamil Nadu university.

Sitharaman said that India supplies 50 percent of all of Africa's demand for generic medicine, 40 percent of the United States' demand for generic medicine, and 25 percent of the United Kingdom's requirement of all medicines.

She added that India produces about 60 percent of global vaccines and 70 percent of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) vaccines for essential immunisation schemes.

Sitharaman also expressed confidence that India would succeed in handling inflation as the nation had already put a "very good framework" in place to address supply-side pressures on the price of food.

The politician has been serving as the Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs of India since 2019. Nirmala Sitharaman previously served as the Defence Minister of India, making her the country's second female defence minister and the second female finance minister.
