New York: Indian-Origin Man Sexually Assaults, Kills Mom On Mother's Day Eve

Man kills mom on Mother's Day eve: In a shocking case from Queens, New York, an Indian-origin man sexually abused and fatally assaulted his mother a day prior to Mother's Day, as per reports. He was charged Sunday by authorities on two counts of sexual abuse and murder.

The attack occurred in the morning around 8:00 am on May 9. The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Pushkar Sharma and the victim as Soraj Sharma, 65, as per the New York Post. The family lived in Jamaica, a neighbourhood known for being home to a vast middle-class population.

Neighbours reportedly told media that Sharma had some "mental health issues" and had exhibited similar "erratic" behaviour in the past as well. They said he was also on medication for the same.

Indian Man Kills Mom On Mother's Day Eve, Case Sends Shockwaves

Sharma allegedly attacked his mother from behind, going on to choke and punch her, reports quoted the Queens District Attorney saying. The victim fell to the ground as Sharma continued to beat her brutally.

Once she was down, he reportedly assaulted her sexually, later turning himself in to the police and confessing to his crimes. The victim's daughter found her bloodied body in the basement. The 65-year-old was rushed to Long Island Jewish Hospital but couldn't be saved.

The DA called the incident a "brutal, tragic nightmare." Sharma's hearing is on May 24.
