Netta D'Souza Appointed Acting President Of Mahila Congress

This development came one day after Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev quit the party and joined the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal's Kolkata.

Sonia Gandhi, Congress Party interim chief, has appointed Netta D'Souza as acting president of the party's women wing. This development came one day after Mahila Congress chief Sushmita Dev quit the party. She has now  joined the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal's Kolkata. In her letter to Sonia Gandhi, she informed about her resignation from the party. However, she didn't give any specific reason for the same.

"I cherish my three-decade-long association with the Indian NationalCongress... I personally thank you for the guidance and opportunities you have given me," she said in her letter dated August 15.

After quitting Congress, she changed her Twitter bio. According to reports, she exited the party’s WhatsApp group as well. She was also the President of All Indian Mahila Congress Morcha.

She is the daughter of seven-time parliamentarian Santosh Mohan Dev. He was also a Congress leader and a Cabinet Minister. She had been a part of the Congress party for close to three decades. She was elected as a member of the Parliament from Silchar seat in Assam, in 2014.  She was in news after her Twitter account was recently suspended, alongside several prominent Congress Party leaders, for disclosing the identity of the minor who died after alleged rape at a Delhi Cantt crematorium.
