What Transpired Between Navneet Rana and Arvind Sawant? Timeline Of The Controversy

Navneet Rana: Independent MP Navneet Kaur Rana accused  Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant of threatening her.

She said that she was ready to take police action against him after he had allegedly threatened her for bringing up the Sachin Waze issue in the parliament. This caused a lot of uproar in the lower house of the parliament as many BJP leaders pointed fingers against the Shiv Sena.

Here is the timeline of the ongoing controversy between Navneet Kaur Rana and Arvind Sawant

1. On 20 March 2021, Param Bir Singh, the former Mumbai CP had written a letter to Maharashtra's CM Uddhav Thackeray. The letter revealed that Maharashtra's home minister Anil Deshmukh had ordered police officer Sachin Waze to collect Rs 100 crore each month from businesses in Mumbai.
2. On Monday, 22 March 2021, Navneet Rana brought up this issue in the Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour. She demanded for an investigation into the corruption case, and was supported by several BJP MPs such as Rakesh Singh.
3. Rana had asked about why Sachin Waze was reinstated after being suspended for 16 years from his post. "On what basis was a man suspended for 16 years and jailed and then reinstated again?" she said.
4. Navneet Kaur Rana had then written a letter to Om Birla, the speaker of the Lok Sabha.
5. In the letter, she alleged that Arvind Sawant had threatened her in the parliament's lobby after she had demanded for a probe into the case in which Maharashtra's home minister Anil Deshmukh and AMP Sachin Waze were allegedly involved.
6. This is how Sawant had allegedly threatened Navneet Kaur Rana: “Tu Maharashtra mein kaise ghoomti hai main dekhta hoon aur tere ko bhi jail mein daalenge (I will see how you roam in Maharashtra, and will put you too in jail).” She also alleged that she had received acid attack threats from the Shiv Sena’s letterhead and also over  the phone.
7. However, Arvind Sawant countered her allegations, and stated that Rana's body language and way of speaking is 'wrong.'
8. Rama Devi, a BJP MP supported Navneet Rana. She said that being an MP, Sawant should never have spoken in this manner.
9. On Tuesday March 23, Navneet Kaur Rana said that she will lodge an FIR against Aravind Sawant for threatening her.
