Mamata Banerjee injured: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was attacked and allegedly "pushed" by people at Nandigram in the East Midnapore district on Wednesday. A preliminary report by doctors at the hospital where she is undergoing treatment says that she has sustained injuries in her left ankle, foot, right shoulder, forearm and neck. She had gone to Nandigram to file her nomination for the coming assembly elections.

Reportedly, the WB Chief Minister was pushed by four or five people against her car. The incident happened around 6.15 pm in Nandigram. Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Trinamool MP said, "At about 6.15 pm, when she was about to leave Birulia Anchal after performing Puja in a temple, a few unknown persons pushed her to the car and forcibly shut the door, as a result of which she sustained injuries in her left leg and suffered severe pain in the waist."

An eyewitness, a student named Suman Maity told ANI, "A crowd had gathered to see the CM. When she was leaving, she fell down and got injured on her neck and leg. She was not pushed, people were only gathering to see her. The car was moving quite slowly."

Another eyewitness Chitranjan Das said, "I saw what happened. Mamata Banerjee came back from visiting temples and she was sitting in her car with the door open. There was a hoarding in front of the car which fell down on the door and hit Mamata Banerjee on her neck and knee. She was not hit or pushed."

66-year-old Banerjee has also been complaining of chest pain and breathlessness since the alleged attack, PTI reported.

On Wednesday, she told reporters that she was "deliberately" pushed by four or five men who manhandled her while she was trying to get into her car. She also pointed to her injured leg and added, "See how it is swelling up". Asked if it was a planned attack, she said, "Of course it is a conspiracy... there were no policemen around me".

"This is certainly a conspiracy,” said Banerjee.

A team of five senior doctors is closely monitoring her and will keep her under observation for 48 hours.
