In Nagpur A 19-Year-Old Files False Rape Case To Marry Her Boyfriend

The woman filed a police complaint and according to the police they jumped to action with first charging the unidentified persons under sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Nagpur Woman False Rape Case: A 19-year-old woman allegedly filed a false gangrape case at Kalamna police station in Nagpur, Maharashtra, in the bid to marry her boyfriend.

The complaint by the woman was filed on December 13. She alleged that she was raped by two persons in an isolated area near the Chikhali Layout which is 1.5 kilometres away from the police station.

In a detailed police report, she alleged that when she was going to her music lessons at Ramdaspeth in the morning, two men in a white coloured van stopped to ask directions to Butibori. They then allegedly forced her inside the vehicle and covered her face with a cloth and drove to the isolated place where they allegedly gangraped her.

For further probe into the case, the Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Additional CP Sunil Phulari and other senior officials came to the police station where the case was registered. They employed over 1,000 security personnel to investigate the case and checked over 250 CCTV footage across the city. The woman was taken to Mayo Hospital for a medical examination and her friends were questioned.

Kumar ordered the formation of 40 special teams which comprised of 1000 security forces to go through the CCTV footage. According to the police, they questioned more than 50 people and spent the entire day trying to uncover the crime and catch the accused.

It was while going through the footage that they came across the entire timeline which was not what the woman had said in her complaint. According to the officials, she got off a bus at the Variety square at 9:50 AM, then walked to the Jhansi Rani Square at 10 AM, boarded an auto-rickshaw from Anand Talkies square at 10:15 AM and got down at the Mayo Hospital at 10:25 AM.

From there, she took another auto-rickshaw from Chikhali square at 10:54 AM and walked towards the police station at 11:04 AM, then filed the complaint.

Taking this, the police questioned the woman again. According to the police, she allegedly told the officers that she did that to marry her boyfriend.

The number of rape cases in India is on the rise and prolonged trials, stigma around it makes it more difficult for many to even file a report. In such a scenario false rape cases make women who are fighting for their rights lose face and credibility.
