Nafisa Ali joins TMC: Bollywood actor Nafisa Ali joined Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Goa Friday, in the presence of party head Mamata Banerjee. This comes ahead of the 2022 assembly polls in Goa, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is presently in power.
“We are elated to share that Nafisa Ali and Mrinalini Deshprabhu have joined the Goa Trinamool Congress family today in the presence of our Hon’ble Chairperson @MamataOfficial. We wholeheartedly welcome both leaders!” TMC tweeted.

“The Congress has always been my calling,” Ali, 64, said post her joining. “There can be a Nehru Congress, there can be an Indira Congress and this is the Mamata Trinamool Congress. For me, when the country and nation needs us, it’s important to unite… The BJP needs to be addressed, in all sincerity and Mamata has proved that she and she alone can become the tigress to take on the likes of Narendra Modi. And I want to be there, to be the change…”

Hailing from Kolkata, Ali presently resides in Goa. Junoon, Aatank and Life in a… Metro are her best-known Bollywood films. She was last seen in the 2018 film Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3. Ali was diagnosed with cancer in 2018. More here.
Ali was previously associated with the Indian National Congress (INC). She left to contest the Lok Sabha elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket in 2009 after the Supreme Court barred actor Sanjay Dutt from contesting owing to a criminal conviction. An Outlook report from that year says Ali rejoined INC, her “family,” after apologising to party president Sonia Gandhi.
Until October this year, she was with INC.
Ahead of joining TMC in Goa, Ali shared on Instagram that she interacted with TMC poll strategist Prashant Kishor and got the answers she “needed to hear.”
