Actor Ranbir Kapoor, in a recent interview, referring to industry colleague Alia Bhatt as his “girlfriend” called her an “overachiever.” He further sparked off rumours of the couple’s marriage, hinting that the pandemic threw a wrench in his wedding plans this year. It has led to wide social media speculation about Kapoor and Bhatt, who are set to star opposite each other in Ayan Mukerji’s upcoming fantasy film Brahmāstra.
Speaking to host and journalist Rajeev Masand about how he spent lockdown, Kapoor said, “My girlfriend Alia is a bit of an overachiever, and she probably took every class there is — from guitar to screenwriting. I always feel like an underachiever next to her. But no, I didn’t take any classes. Initially we were dealing with the family crisis, and then I got into reading, spent time with my family, and I watch two-three films every day.”

Ranbir Kapoor Hints At Marriage With Alia Bhatt
Kapoor, who lost his father, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor to leukemia in April this year, also bluntly hinted at his marriage. He said, “Well, I think it (the wedding) would have already been sealed had the pandemic not hit our lives. But I don’t want to jinx it by saying anything. I am going to tick mark that goal very soon in my life.”
Bhatt and Kapoor have preferred to keep their relationship largely private, though they have often been photographed together. On social media, Bhatt is frequently seen alongside Kapoor’s family, which comprises his mother, celebrated actor Neetu Kapoor, sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, and cousins Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor. Bhatt was also seen in attendance at Rishi Kapoor’s funeral.
Brahmāstra will reportedly be the first time Kapoor and Bhatt will be seen sharing screen-space. The film is being helmed by Karan Johar as the producer and is the first title in a three-film series. Brahmāstra, which has managed to drum up excitement well before its release, will also star Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna Akkineni alongside Bhatt and Kapoor in significant roles.
