Munger Rape Case: 10 Things You Should Know

Munger Rape Case: While the country is trying to make sense of the gory details of the Delhi girl who was raped and cremated without parents' information, another case involving rape and murder of an eight-year-old is making headlines. Her body was recovered 300 metres away from her house at a village under the Naya Ramnagar police station area in Munger district of Bihar.

Here's what you should know about the case:

1. According to the police, the crime transpired 200 metres away from the banks of the Ganga.
2. The girl was accompanying her father to the river bank. Her father is a fisherman, as per sources.
3. The father asked the girl to return home. However, she didn't reach home and was missing
4.  The villagers spotted the girl's body around 5am. The body was recovered and the police was informed later.
5. Her father Pawan Choudhary has filed an FIR against unknown persons since he doesn't suspect anyone in the case.
6. A special investigation team has been formed to crack the case. Sadar SDPO Nand Ji Prasad will be leading it
7. The SP also mentioned that the body was mutilated. The severity of the crime can be gauged through the fact that one of her eye was gouged out.
8. Her fingers on one of the palms were also found smashed indicating that she had put resistance.
9. The team has formed a medical board to investigate the case further.
10. They are yet to confirm the exact way she was murdered.

A few days ago, a 9-year-old Dalit girl who had gone to the Delhi Cantt crematorium to get cold water, was allegedly gangraped and murdered. Her parents worked as ragpickers. The girl was forcibly cremated thereafter. An FIR  has been registered based on the mother’s statement. Four people have been taken into custody. the Delhi police team has said that FSL and crime team collected samples for the investigation. Read more about the case.
