Social media proved to be a blessing to Yasmin Sheikh, the Mumbai resident who saw her mother after 20 years who is now living in Pakistan.
We have heard bizarre things happen on the internet. Some people go viral and famous within days while some find their loved ones whom they lost touch with for decades. We have enough prove that the internet is not always bad for us.
Mumbai woman finds mother in Pakistan
Yasmin Sheikh is one such lucky person who randomly came across a video on social media of her mother whom she has not met for the last 20 years. She told Asian News International (ANI), "I came to know about my mother after 20 years through a Pakistan-based social media account which had posted a video."
As per reports, Sheikh's mother went to Qatar as a cook and did not return. And it was not the only time that she had gone to the middle east but she used to go there for work every two to four years. But this time they were not able to contact her. She added, "We tried looking for her but all the efforts went in vain as we could not even file a complaint as we had no evidence."
The difference between other times and this was that Hamida Banu, Sheikh's mother went to Dubai to work as a cook with the help of an agent. So Sheikh and her family tried to contact the agent but he was of no use either. She said, "When we used to go to meet the agent to know about my mother's whereabouts, she (agent) used to say that my mother did not want to meet or talk to us and assured us that she was doing well, however, she in her video, clearly said that the agent had told her not to disclose the truth to anybody."
Banu's sister Shahida told that the agent had fled after sometime diminishing the remaining hope they had about finding Banu.

It was through this recent video on social media that Sheikh got to know that her mother has reached Pakistan otherwise they assumed Banu must be in Dubai only or some other country in the middle east. In the video, Banu talked about her family and rightly named her husband and siblings and their residence which assured the family that it was her.
Banu's sister and daughter are elated by the news of finding her and think this is nothing short of a miracle. They have urged the Indian government to bring back Banu as soon as possible.
