The death of Instagram star and influencer Alexis Sharkey has rocked the social media world given the circumstances in which she was found. 26-year-old Sharkey, who went missing a day after Thanksgiving, was discovered this weekend on a Houston road approximately three miles from her apartment, her body naked with no visible wounds. Stacy Robinault, mother of the deceased, has categorically claimed there is "foul play" at work in her daughter's death.

"The way in which she was found – my child would never do that to herself. That doesn’t even make sense. That is absolutely foul play. There is nothing to me that suggests that this was an accident… I believe that in my mother’s gut," Robinault was quoted saying in Click2Houston.

About The Alexis Sharkey Case

Alexis Sharkey, whose Instagram follower count currently stands at over 34,000, was a self-proclaimed mentor and a social media influencer known for her expertise in skincare and beauty. She was popular for posting pictures from her travels, with her girlfriends, and husband Tom Sharkey. Based in Houston, Texas, she reportedly went missing a day after Thanksgiving, and her dead body was recovered a few days later.

According to the family, the news of their missing daughter only reached them when her husband called to tell them on Saturday. Alarms were raised further when Sharkey’s friends, whom she was supposed to meet at the movies on Saturday, said she wasn’t responding to their calls or texts. This was strange, a friend of hers said, because “She is attached to her phone. She is a social media queen. She is an influencer. She works from her phone.”

Sharkey’s body was reportedly found on Saturday around 8:30 a.m, by some city workers along the side of a service road. Robinault, upon the discovery of her daughter, posted a Facebook message on Sunday, saying, “It’s with deeply broken hearts that Mike and I want to let you all know that Lexi’s body has been found.  We cannot begin to thank you all for your love and the kind words you’ve extended to our family!”

Husband Responds To Allegations

Robinault said her daughter had moved to West Texas when she met Tom Sharkey, and the couple relocated to Houston after marriage. The Sharkeys were one year into marriage, but had reportedly been having marital troubles and were heading towards divorce, sources close to the deceased alleged.

According to a friend, Sharkey had once revealed that her husband was physically and verbally abusive towards her. "He strangles me and chokes me out and I blackout and wake up on the bathroom floor every single time," Sharkey's friend recalled her saying once.

Given the circumstances, several on social media are speculating the husband's role in her death.

Tom Sharkey, aged 49, had denied all claims of involvement when his wife had first gone missing. He reportedly took to social media to write, "While some of you were posting on social media helping us locate my world! And we appreciate all your help, Love and support! Others were waisting time talking about other things. Basically crap talk! I have been assisting the deputies and making phone calls to fine out what happened to my wife."
