Monica Dogra to collaborate with feminist Gloria Steinem on series called Woman

American Indian actress and singer Monica Dogra, who is known for her work in Bollywood films like Dhobhi Ghaat, David and Rock On, added yet another feather to her cap, bringing some added pride to the nation. She is going to feature in Gloria Steinem's documentary series titled 'Woman', where she will work on gender related violence. The show will be telecasted on a new US channel known as 'Viceland'. The show premieres on May 10, with a special episode by two time Oscar winning Pakistani filmmaker, Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy.

In a statement made to FirstPost, Monica revealed:

I shot for Woman in northern British Columbia in Canada about six months ago. We covered the rising issue of missing and murdered women on Highway 16, popularly known as 'The Highway of Tears'. Growing up in the US, I was completely ignorant of the issues happening in a neighbouring country. But now that I know about it, it's an honour to be a part of a series such as Woman.

82 year old Gloria Steinem is today's pioneer in the trajectory of global feminist thought. Starting her feminist journey from India, she went on to recieve the 'Presidential Medal of Freedom' from US President Barack Obama in 2013. She has dedicated her life to the cause of gender equality. With this collection of 8 short documentaries, she aims to bring global attention to gendered violence that 'normalizes other violence'. In an interview with Associated Press, Gloria said:

Violence against females is the biggest indicator of whether a country will be violent in itself or be willing to use military violence against another country

Another great initiative by Steinem in binding women across the world into one sisterhood, on an issue that is common to us all.
