Mithali Raj Loses ODI No.1 Batswoman Spot

Indian women’s cricket captain Mithali Raj has been replaced by Australia all-rounder Ellyse Perry as top batswoman in the ICC ODI rankings. The latest ICC ODI rankings are here. Raj had acquired the top rank for batswoman late last year but now has dropped to the third position after having a not so great performance in the ODI series against South Africa.

Australia skipper Meg Lanning made it to the number two spot in the ranking, ANI reported.

Perry is the number one all-rounder in the sport. For the first time in her career, she topped the batting rankings.

Raj last time jumped to number one scoring 70, 20 and 4 runs in the series against Proteas which India won 2-1.

Meanwhile, India’s Harmanpreet Kaur missed her earlier position and dropped two places to seventh after scores. On the other hand, opener Smriti Mandhana jumped 14 players to 21 after her latest player-of-the-series performance, stepped into scores of 84, 135 and 0.

Among women bowlers’ ranks, South African pacer Marizanne Kapp remains No.1, ahead of India fast bowler Jhulan Goswami, who recently became the first woman to claim 200 wickets.

Raj, Kaur and Goswami are the powerful sporting icons from India who made their presence felt in the 2017 Women’s World Cup in England.

Raj has been the backbone of Indian women’s cricket. She led the team to two World Cup finals and her batting performance has been India’s best till date. Arguably, she has put Indian women’s cricket on the centrestage. Their remarkable fight has helped them garner a noticeable place in the top league and also occupying top spot in the women’s team rankings.
