Melinda Gates while attending a conference in New Delhi on TuesdayWomen Leading Change in Health and Science in India, said, "Over the past few years, India has been constructing a more gender-equal nation from the ground up and it continues to show the world what investing in women can do."

Melinda French Gates, co-chair, and Trustee of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation also called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday, December 6. 

Melinda Gates Appreciates India

Melinda Gates, a philanthropist pointed out that throughout the pandemic, India continues to show the world what investing in women can do and the benefits of investing in women. To protect 300 million individuals, including 200 million women, during the pandemic, the government used digital bank accounts to give money to them."

Gates lauded India's gender-intentional policymaking. She said, "Making sure that cash transfers get directly into women's hands is an example of gender-intentional policymaking. India has been building a more gender-equal country from the bottom up over the past few years."

At the event, a report titled "Grassroot Soldiers: Role of ASHAs and ANMs in the COVID-19 Pandemic Management in India" was released by Dr. Mandaviya and Gates on Tuesday.

Melinda Gates also said, “It is amazing how India covered more than 90 % of its population through vaccination in such a short time. India has been a champion in pioneering innovations to fight the pandemic and minimize its impact on the most vulnerable groups. The country has made rapid strides in improving health outcomes of millions of citizens, particularly in ensuring consistent progress on maternal and child health indicators."
