India’s only International Federation Of Bodybuilding (IFBB) figure pro athlete Deepika (33) has now been invited to represent India at the prestigious stage of the Arnold Classic on March 17, 2017, in Melbourne, Australia.

The Arnold Classic is the second biggest bodybuilding championship across the globe after Mr. Olympia and on a platform like this, Deepika is only one of the two Indians who bagged an entry successfully.

She received her pro card last year after Varinder Ghuman from Punjab was chosen to be in a tough competition.

The Maharashtra-based Deepika is a molecular biologist by profession who has been working at National Institute of Virology (NIV) for nine years now. Deepika emerged as an inspiration for many aspiring female athletes in India who once thought bodybuilding is not women’s area of expertise.  Well, proving the mindset wrong, Deepika has competed in numerous tournaments like The Steveston Metropolitan Championship, the Atlantic States Championship, NPC Eastern USA Championship and so on.

Adding to her list of achievements, Deepika became the first Indian woman to represent India and win in an International Fitness competition which was held in USA last year.

So, what inspired the boldness? Deepika decided to beef up her muscles and showcase it on various platforms after she attended a seminar in Delhi conducted by world renowned fitness coach Shannon Dey in 2012.

She is the first woman from our country to have been honoured with the title of professional by the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB).

She also is a Team Bombshell athlete, the largest and most prestigious professional competitive fitness training team in the world.

While thanking Shannon Dey, the CEO of Bombshell Fitness company, for her constant support to her, Deepika told MensXP, “I am really excited to represent my nation at the dream stage of Arnold Classic. I have been working really hard for this. The best part is that I am going to share the stage with my own mentor, Gennifer Strobo, but frankly speaking, I am little nervous too."

We wish the athlete all the best for all of her future endeavours. We are hoping to see Deepika give tough competition to her fellow bodybuilders this time too.
